Attach the Whistle Tracker to Your Pet's Collar

    ~24s
Slide the Whistle tracker onto your pet's collar through the attachment loop on the back of the device. Make sure it is secure and sitting flat — it should not hang or dangle. The tracker should be snug enough that it does not slide to the side but loose enough that it does not bother your pet. Most dogs and cats quickly get used to the small added weight.
    2

Download the Whistle App and Activate the Device

    ~24s
Search "Whistle" in the App Store or Google Play and install the app. Create an account with your email address and choose a subscription plan. During setup, the app will ask you to scan the QR code on the back of the tracker or enter the device serial number to link the tracker to your account. Hold the button on the tracker for a few seconds to turn it on.
    3

    Enter Your Pet's Information

    ~20s
The app will ask for your pet's name, species (dog or cat), breed, weight, and age. This information helps Whistle calculate activity goals and give you health insights. Upload a photo of your pet too — it makes the app feel more personal and is helpful if you ever need to share the app screen while searching for a lost animal.
    4

    Set Up a Safe Zone

    ~32s
In the app, go to your pet's profile and tap "Safe Zones." Tap "Add safe zone" and position the map so the circle covers your home and yard. You can resize the zone by pinching the circle larger or smaller. Name the zone (such as "Home") and save it. From that point on, if your pet's GPS location leaves the zone, you will receive an instant notification on your phone.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Set the safe zone a bit larger than your actual yard to account for minor GPS drift — GPS is accurate to within about 10 to 20 feet.

    5

Track Your Pet on the Map

    ~28s
Open the app at any time and tap your pet's name to see their current location on the map. The app shows a blue dot for their location and refreshes every few seconds when the tracker is actively moving. You can also tap "Track live" for a continuous location feed. Battery life on Whistle trackers is typically five to seven days on a charge.

    Warning

Whistle requires cellular coverage to report location. In areas with no cell signal, the tracker cannot send location updates to the app.

Whistle is a GPS tracker that clips onto your pet's collar and lets you see where they are on a map from your phone. If your dog or cat ever gets out of the yard, you can pull up the Whistle app and see their location in near real-time rather than searching the neighborhood blindly.

The Whistle tracker is a small, durable device about the size of a large button. It attaches to most standard collars and is water-resistant, so it holds up through rain, puddles, and even swimming. The device works using GPS satellites and cellular networks — this is what lets it report location even when your pet is far from home.

Because Whistle uses cellular data to communicate location, it requires a monthly subscription. Plans start around $7 to $10 per month after an initial promotional period. You can choose month-to-month or prepay for a year at a discount. The tracker device itself costs around $80 to $130 depending on the model.

One of the most useful features is the Safe Zone. You define a virtual boundary around your home (or any place your pet is allowed to be). If your pet leaves that area, you immediately get an alert on your phone. This can save precious time if a gate is accidentally left open.

In addition to GPS tracking, some Whistle models also track your pet's daily activity — how many minutes they were active versus resting — and their sleep. This health data appears in the app alongside location history.
