Yummly is a recipe discovery app that gets smarter the more you use it. Instead of showing every recipe ever created, it learns what cuisines you like, what ingredients you dislike, and whether you follow any dietary restrictions — then it fills your feed with recipes that actually match your life.
When you first set up Yummly, it walks you through a brief preferences survey. You choose which cuisines you enjoy (Italian, Mexican, Asian, American, etc.), flag any ingredients you want to avoid (onions, mushrooms, shellfish), and select any dietary restrictions that apply to you — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, or low-sodium options are all available.
From there, the home feed shows recipe suggestions tailored to your profile. You can browse casually or use the search bar to find something specific. Each recipe card shows a photo, prep time, cooking time, and a difficulty level.
Saving a recipe to your recipe box is as simple as tapping the bookmark icon. Once saved, recipes are organized in one place so you do not have to remember where you found them. You can create a weekly meal plan inside the app by adding saved recipes to specific days.
One of Yummly's most practical features is its automatic grocery list. When you add a recipe to your plan, its ingredients get added to a shopping list inside the app. You can check items off as you shop, and the list keeps them organized.
The cooking mode displays instructions in large text with the screen staying on — no need to tap the phone every few minutes to keep it from going dark while your hands are covered in flour.
Nutritional information appears on every recipe if you want to track calories, protein, or fat. Yummly also connects with Whirlpool smart appliances for guided cooking, though that feature is entirely optional.
Yummly Premium (a paid subscription) adds video walkthroughs for recipes, which can be helpful if you are learning a new technique.
