    1

Download Yummly and set up your taste profile

    ~17s
Download Yummly from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Create a free account and complete the taste profile setup. Choose your preferred cuisines, flag ingredients you dislike, and select any dietary restrictions. This takes about two minutes and significantly improves the recipe suggestions you see.
    2

    Browse recipes and save favorites

    ~18s
Scroll through your personalized feed or use the search bar to find a specific dish. When you find a recipe you want to try, tap the bookmark icon to save it to your recipe box. You can come back to your saved recipes any time without needing to remember where you found them.
    3

Build a meal plan and generate a grocery list

    ~24s
Tap the calendar icon to access the weekly meal planner. Add recipes to specific days of the week. Once your plan is set, Yummly automatically compiles a grocery list from all the ingredients needed. Open the list when you go shopping and check off items as you find them.

    Quick Tip

Filter recipes by cook time before planning — choose 30-minute meals for busy weeknights and save longer recipes for weekends.

    4

Use cooking mode when you are ready to cook

    ~15s
Open a saved recipe and tap "Cook." Cooking mode displays step-by-step instructions in large text with your phone screen staying on. Swipe to advance each step — no need to keep tapping to wake the screen.

Yummly is a recipe discovery app that gets smarter the more you use it. Instead of showing every recipe ever created, it learns what cuisines you like, what ingredients you dislike, and whether you follow any dietary restrictions — then it fills your feed with recipes that actually match your life.

When you first set up Yummly, it walks you through a brief preferences survey. You choose which cuisines you enjoy (Italian, Mexican, Asian, American, etc.), flag any ingredients you want to avoid (onions, mushrooms, shellfish), and select any dietary restrictions that apply to you — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, or low-sodium options are all available.

From there, the home feed shows recipe suggestions tailored to your profile. You can browse casually or use the search bar to find something specific. Each recipe card shows a photo, prep time, cooking time, and a difficulty level.

Saving a recipe to your recipe box is as simple as tapping the bookmark icon. Once saved, recipes are organized in one place so you do not have to remember where you found them. You can create a weekly meal plan inside the app by adding saved recipes to specific days.

One of Yummly's most practical features is its automatic grocery list. When you add a recipe to your plan, its ingredients get added to a shopping list inside the app. You can check items off as you shop, and the list keeps them organized.

The cooking mode displays instructions in large text with the screen staying on — no need to tap the phone every few minutes to keep it from going dark while your hands are covered in flour.

Nutritional information appears on every recipe if you want to track calories, protein, or fat. Yummly also connects with Whirlpool smart appliances for guided cooking, though that feature is entirely optional.

Yummly Premium (a paid subscription) adds video walkthroughs for recipes, which can be helpful if you are learning a new technique.
