IRS2Go is a free, official app from the Internal Revenue Service. It's available for iPhone and Android and lets you check the status of your federal tax refund directly from your phone — no need to log into a website or call the IRS.
After you file your federal tax return, the IRS processes it and (if you're getting money back) sends your refund either as a direct deposit to your bank account or as a check in the mail. IRS2Go lets you track where in that process your return currently is.
You can start checking your refund status 24 hours after the IRS acknowledges receipt of your e-filed return, or four weeks after you mail a paper return. The app shows a simple three-step progress bar: 1. Return Received — the IRS has your return 2. Return Approved — your return has been reviewed and the refund amount confirmed 3. Refund Sent — your refund is on its way to your bank or by mail
Beyond tracking refunds, IRS2Go also lets you: - Make a tax payment directly to the IRS - Find free tax preparation help near you (including IRS Free File) - Sign up for IRS news and tax tips by email
The app is completely free and does not require creating an account to check a refund. You just need your Social Security number or ITIN, your filing status, and the exact refund amount from your return.
