Google stores your searches, YouTube views, and location history — here's how to delete it and stop future tracking.

    1

    Visit Google My Activity

    ~15s
On your phone or computer, open a browser and go to myactivity.google.com. Sign in with your Google account if prompted. You'll see a chronological log of your activity across all Google services.
    2

    Delete your history

    ~16s
To delete everything, tap Delete (top right or in the menu), then choose All Time, then confirm. To delete specific entries, tap the three dots next to any item and choose Delete. You can also filter by product (Google Search, YouTube, Maps) and delete that category alone.
    3

    Set up Auto-Delete

    ~18s
In My Activity, go to Data & Privacy settings and find History Settings. Click on Web & App Activity, then Auto-delete. Choose 3 months or 18 months — Google will automatically delete anything older than that period going forward.

    Quick Tip

Repeat this for Location History and YouTube History — each has its own Auto-delete setting.

    4

    Pause future tracking (optional)

    ~15s
In the same History Settings area, you can toggle off Web & App Activity, Location History, and YouTube History entirely. When paused, Google won't save new activity. Some features like personalized recommendations and location-based results may be less helpful.

    Clear Chrome browsing history separately

    ~15s
In the Chrome browser, tap the three-dot menu, then History, then Clear browsing data. Check "Browsing history" (and optionally cookies and cached files), choose your time range, and tap Clear data. This clears the local record on your device.

Every time you search Google, watch a YouTube video, use Google Maps, or open an app on Android, Google logs the activity to your account. This data is used to personalize ads and recommendations. Many people don't realize how much Google has stored over months or years of use.

You can see everything Google has about you at myactivity.google.com. Sign in with your Google account and you'll find a detailed log of your searches, YouTube watch history, voice commands, location visits, and more. It can be surprising how complete this record is.

To delete specific items, click or tap on any entry and select Delete. To delete everything at once, click Delete in the top right of My Activity, then choose All Time. You'll be asked to confirm. This permanently removes the selected data from Google's servers.

A better long-term solution is to set up Auto-Delete, so Google automatically deletes data older than a certain period. Go to My Activity, click Data & Privacy (or the gear icon), and look for History Settings. Under Web & App Activity, click Auto-delete and choose 3 months or 18 months. Do the same for Location History and YouTube History.

You can also pause activity tracking entirely. Under each history type (Web & App Activity, Location History, YouTube History), toggle off the switch to stop Google from recording new activity. Note that this may make some features less useful — Google Maps may not remember recent searches, and YouTube recommendations may be less relevant.

On your phone, the Google app also stores search history locally. In the Google app, tap your profile picture, then Search history, and delete from there as well. Chrome's browsing history is separate — in Chrome, tap the three dots, then History, then Clear browsing data. Check "Browsing history," choose a time range, and tap Clear data.

After deleting your activity, Google's personalized ads may feel less targeted for a while. YouTube's recommended videos may also seem less relevant. These systems rebuild over time based on future activity.
