What is bloatware?
Bloatware is software pre-installed on your computer by the manufacturer. It can include trial antivirus, games, and apps you never asked for. Removing it frees up storage and can speed up your PC.
Uninstall from Settings
Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Scroll through the list and click the three dots next to apps you don't use. Click Uninstall. Safe to remove: candy games, trial software, manufacturer utilities you don't use.
What NOT to remove
Don't remove Microsoft Edge (can break Windows Update), .NET Framework, Visual C++ Redistributable, or drivers. When in doubt, search the app name online before removing it.
Disable startup programs
Task Manager > Startup tab. Disable programs you don't need at startup. This speeds up boot time significantly. You can always re-enable them later.
Use the built-in disk cleanup
Search "Disk Cleanup" in the Start menu. Select your drive and let it scan. Check boxes for temporary files, thumbnails, and previous Windows installations. Click OK to free up space.
