Open Settings
Tap the grey gear icon called "Settings" on your iPhone's home screen.
Tap "General"
In Settings, tap "General" — it's near the top of the list with an icon that looks like a gear inside a circle.
Tap "Software Update"
Tap "Software Update." Your iPhone will check if an update is available. This may take a moment.
Install the update
If an update is available, tap "Install Now." You'll be asked to agree to Apple's terms. Your phone will restart as part of the update.
Tip: Connect your iPhone to a charger before updating — updates can use a lot of battery.
Important: Make sure you have a backup before updating, just in case. See our iCloud Backup guide if you haven't backed up recently.
Wait for the update to finish
Your iPhone will show the Apple logo while it updates. This usually takes 10–20 minutes. Don't turn off your phone during this time.
