Zocdoc is a free online service that shows you real appointment openings at doctors' offices near you. Instead of calling multiple offices, waiting on hold, and being told the next available appointment is weeks away, Zocdoc lets you see every available opening right now and book in a few minutes.
Zocdoc covers a wide range of medical specialties — primary care physicians, dermatologists, cardiologists, OB/GYNs, dentists, mental health therapists, and many more. Many listings also offer telehealth (video) appointments, which can be done from your home.
To get started, go to zocdoc.com in any web browser or download the free Zocdoc app from the App Store or Google Play. You do not need an account to search, but you will need to create one to complete a booking.
In the search area, enter the type of provider you need (for example, "primary care doctor" or "dermatologist") and your ZIP code or city. Zocdoc will show you a list of providers who have upcoming availability. You can filter results by your insurance plan — select your insurance company and plan name to see only doctors who are in-network for you.
Each provider listing shows their photo, credentials, patient ratings and written reviews, office location, and available appointment slots for the next several days. Click on a provider's name to read their full profile and see all their available times displayed on a calendar.
When you find a time that works, click it and follow the steps to create a Zocdoc account (or sign in if you already have one). You will enter your insurance information and basic health information. After confirming your details, your appointment is booked and you will receive a confirmation email.
Zocdoc sends reminder notifications by email or text before your appointment. If your plans change, you can cancel or reschedule directly through the app or website.
Before your visit, prepare by writing down your current medications, any symptoms or concerns you want to discuss, and questions for the doctor. Zocdoc is a scheduling tool — it does not replace your actual conversation with the provider.
Not every doctor in your area will be listed on Zocdoc. The service includes only providers who have chosen to list their availability on the platform. If your preferred doctor is not on Zocdoc, you will still need to call their office directly.
