How to Use the Windows 11 Widgets Panel

Windows 11 has a widgets panel that shows news, weather, sports scores, stock prices, and a calendar at a glance — accessible with one click.

    1

    Open the Widgets panel

    ~15s
Click the weather widget icon in the taskbar (it usually shows temperature and a small weather icon). Or press Windows key + W on your keyboard.
    2

    Browse your default widgets

    ~15s
Scroll through the Widgets panel. Weather is at the top, followed by other widgets. Below them is a news feed. Click any widget to open its full app or website.
    3

    Add or remove widgets

    ~16s
Click the pencil (Edit) icon at the top right of the panel → "Add widgets." Check boxes to add widgets or uncheck to remove them. Click "Done."

    Quick Tip

Start with just the weather and calendar widgets if you find the default layout overwhelming. You can always add more later.

    4

    Customize your news feed

    ~15s
In the news feed section, click the three dots (⋯) next to any article → "Manage interests." Add topics you care about (health, gardening, local news) and remove topics you do not.
    5

    Resize a widget

    ~15s
Click the three dots (⋯) on any widget → "Small," "Medium," or "Large." Larger widgets show more detail; smaller ones take up less space.

Windows 11 includes a Widgets panel — a sidebar that shows live, at-a-glance information without opening any apps. You can access it by clicking the weather/news icon in the taskbar (usually showing the current temperature) or by pressing Windows key + W.

The default widgets include: - **Weather**: Current conditions and a five-day forecast - **News**: Top headlines personalized to your interests - **Calendar**: Your upcoming appointments and events - **Sports**: Scores and standings for your favorite teams - **Stocks/markets**: Price updates for stocks you follow - **Photos**: Your recent photos from OneDrive - **To Do**: Tasks from Microsoft To Do - **Traffic**: Current conditions on your commute route

You can add, remove, and rearrange widgets by clicking the pencil icon ("Edit widgets") at the top of the panel. Each widget can be resized — small, medium, or large — depending on how much detail you want to see.

The news feed at the bottom of the Widgets panel is personalized based on topics you follow. You can hide topics you are not interested in and add new ones.

Widgets is designed to be glanceable — you open it briefly, see what you need, and close it. It does not replace any apps; it simply gives you quick access to information you check frequently without opening a browser or multiple apps.
