    1

Download the VA Health and Benefits App

    ~24s
Open the App Store on an iPhone or the Google Play Store on an Android phone. Search for "VA: Health and Benefits" — look for the official app with the VA seal. Tap "Get" or "Install" to download the free app. Avoid similar-looking apps that are not from the official VA.

    Quick Tip

The official app is published by "US Dept of Veterans Affairs." Verify this in the app store listing before downloading.

    2

Sign In with Your VA Account

    ~21s
Open the app and tap "Sign in." You can sign in with a Login.gov account, an ID.me account, a DS Logon Premium account, or a My HealtheVet Premium account. If you have previously used the VA website online, try the account you used there. If you need to create an account, Login.gov is the recommended option — go to login.gov to create one.
    3

Set Up Biometric Login for Easy Access

    ~18s
After your first sign-in, the app will offer to let you use your face (Face ID) or fingerprint to sign in quickly in the future instead of typing your password each time. This is optional but recommended for convenience. Tap "Enable" to turn it on and follow the prompts.
    4

    Check Appointments and Refill Prescriptions

    ~15s
From the home screen, tap "Health" to access your health-related features. View upcoming appointments, request new appointments, or cancel appointments you cannot attend. Tap "Prescriptions" to see your active VA prescriptions and request refills. Medication shipped by mail shows tracking information.
    5

Message Your Care Team and Check Claims

    ~30s
Tap "Secure Messaging" to send a message to your VA provider or care team — similar to sending an email. Expect a response within a few business days for non-urgent questions. Tap "Benefits" from the home screen to check the status of any disability claims, see your payment history, and download benefit letters.

    Warning

Secure messages are not for emergencies. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. For a mental health crisis, call the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 and press 1.

The VA Health and Benefits app (formerly known as the VA mobile app) is a free smartphone application designed to help veterans manage their VA health care and benefits from their phone or tablet. This app consolidates many tasks that used to require phone calls, mail, or in-person visits into a single convenient place.

With the app, you can schedule, view, and cancel VA medical appointments. You can refill your VA prescriptions and track the delivery status of your medications sent by mail. The app also allows you to send secure messages to your VA care team — a great way to ask non-urgent questions without spending time on hold.

Veterans can also use the app to download their VA medical records and view their complete claims and appeals status. If you have filed or are considering filing a disability claim, the app keeps you updated on where your claim stands in the process.

To use the app, you need to sign in with a verified account — either a ID.me, Login.gov, DS Logon Premium, or My HealtheVet Premium account. If you have been using MyHealtheVet.va.gov online, you may already have the credentials you need. If not, the app provides instructions for setting up a verified account.

The app is available for both iPhone and Android. It is free to download and free to use. The app is developed and maintained by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and is the official VA mobile application — search specifically for "VA: Health and Benefits" in your app store to find the right one.
