How to Use YouTube on Your TV

Watch YouTube videos on your television using a smart TV app, Roku, Fire Stick, or Chromecast.

    1

Find the YouTube app on your TV

    ~16s
On most smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Vizio), press the Home button on your remote and look for the YouTube app in the apps row. On Roku, find YouTube in the Streaming Channels section. On Amazon Fire TV, search for YouTube in the search bar.
    2

Install YouTube if it is not already there

    ~15s
If YouTube is not installed, go to your TV's app store (Samsung App Store, LG Content Store, Roku Channel Store) and search for "YouTube." Select it and click "Add Channel" or "Install."
    3

Sign in to your Google account (optional)

    ~18s
You can watch YouTube without signing in. To save videos, access your subscriptions, or use your history, press the profile icon and sign in with your Google account. You can link your phone to the TV for easier sign-in — the app will show a code to enter at youtube.com/activate.
    4

    Search for videos

    ~15s
Use the remote's voice button (if available) or the on-screen keyboard to search for videos. Navigate using the arrow keys on your remote. Press OK or Enter to select a video and play it.
    5

Use your phone as a remote

    ~16s
Open YouTube on your phone and tap the cast icon (a rectangle with WiFi waves) in the top right corner. Select your TV from the list. Now you can use your phone to search, browse, and control playback while the video plays on the TV.
