How to Borrow Free Audiobooks with Libby

Listen to thousands of audiobooks and read e-books for free with your public library card.

    1

    Download Libby

    ~15s
Install the free Libby app from the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android). You can also use libbyapp.com in a web browser on a computer.
    2

    Add your library card

    ~15s
Tap "Yes" when Libby asks if you have a library card. Pick your library from the list or search by your zip code. Enter your card number and PIN — the same ones you use at the library.
    3

    Browse and borrow

    ~15s
Tap the library icon at the bottom to see available titles. The search bar and "Explore" section help you find new books. Tap any title and then "Borrow" to check it out for 2 to 3 weeks.
    4

Send to Kindle or listen in Libby

    ~15s
For e-books, you can choose "Read with Kindle" to send the book to your Kindle app or device. For audiobooks, tap "Open in Libby" to start listening right in the app.
    5

    Return early or renew

    ~15s
Tap the shelf icon to see your loans. Tap any book then "Manage loan" to return it early (freeing it up for someone else) or renew it if nobody is waiting.

Libby is a free app from your public library that lets you borrow audiobooks, e-books, and magazines using only your library card. Books return themselves automatically, so there are no late fees.

Most U.S. public libraries have Libby. If there is a waitlist for a popular title, it is the same as the physical library — you get in line.
