How to Use Headspace for Meditation

Learn to meditate with Headspace — short, guided sessions designed for beginners with no experience.

    1

    Install Headspace

    ~15s
Download Headspace from the App Store or Play Store. Open it, tap Sign Up, and create an account with your email.
    2

    Start the Basics course

    ~15s
On the home screen, tap "Basics" or look for the free beginner pack. It is 10 sessions, each 10 minutes long, teaching you the fundamentals of meditation.
    3

    Listen with headphones

    ~15s
Put on headphones, sit somewhere quiet, and tap Play on Session 1. Andy will guide you through breathing exercises and body awareness. You do not need to sit cross-legged or do anything fancy — just breathe.
    4

    Do one session a day

    ~15s
Try to do one session a day for 10 days in a row. The app tracks your streak and unlocks new content as you progress.
    5

    Try sleepcasts and focus music

    ~15s
After Basics, explore other parts of the app. Sleepcasts are bedtime stories that help you fall asleep, and Focus music is background sound for work or study.

Headspace is a meditation app built around a free 10-day beginner course called Basics. The sessions are only 10 minutes each and taught by a former monk named Andy Puddicombe who explains everything in plain language.

After the free trial, Headspace costs $13 a month or $70 a year. Many people find that 10 minutes a day for a couple of weeks genuinely helps with stress and sleep.
