USPS Informed Delivery is a free service from the United States Postal Service that lets you see what mail and packages are coming to your address before they arrive. Every morning, you get an email with scanned images of the letters and flats heading to your mailbox that day. You can also track any packages being delivered by USPS.
This service is useful for keeping track of important documents like bills, checks, tax forms, and prescriptions. It also helps you notice if something that should have arrived is missing — an early warning sign of mail theft.
To sign up, go to informeddelivery.usps.com. Click "Sign Up" and create a free USPS.com account. You will need to verify your identity — USPS will ask you to confirm your address and may ask security questions. In some cases, they will mail a verification code to your address.
Once set up, you receive daily email notifications showing grayscale images of each piece of mail heading to you. Package tracking information appears in the same dashboard and email. You can also download the free USPS Informed Delivery app on your phone for push notifications when new mail or package updates are available.
If you are going on vacation, Informed Delivery helps you monitor your mail from anywhere. You can also use the "Hold Mail" feature from the same website to have the post office hold your mail for up to 30 days while you are away.
