TP-Link Deco is a family of mesh Wi-Fi systems that provide strong wireless coverage throughout your home by using multiple small units that work together as a team. Instead of one router struggling to reach every corner, Deco units spread coverage evenly so you get a reliable connection in the bedroom, the backyard, and everywhere in between.
What makes Deco appealing is the price. Deco systems are typically less expensive than Eero (Amazon) or Netgear Orbi while delivering similar coverage. TP-Link offers a wide range — from the budget-friendly Deco M4 (good for smaller homes) to the premium Deco XE75 (handles very large homes and supports Wi-Fi 6E for faster speeds).
To get started, download the free Deco app on your iPhone or Android phone before you touch any hardware. Search for "TP-Link Deco" in the App Store or Google Play.
Once the app is installed, open it and tap "Get Started." The app will walk you through every step. Connect your main Deco unit to your modem (the device your internet provider gave you) using the included Ethernet cable, then plug the Deco into power. The app detects it and guides you through naming your Wi-Fi network and creating a password.
After the main unit is connected, the app will ask if you have additional Deco units. Place them in rooms where Wi-Fi was weak before — a back bedroom, upstairs hallway, or detached garage. Plug them into power and add them through the app one at a time by tapping "Add Deco."
The Deco app shows you every device connected to your network in real time. You can see your phone, your TV, your smart speaker, and more — all listed by device name.
TP-Link HomeShield is a built-in security feature that offers parental controls, network quality controls (QoS), and antivirus scanning for connected devices. The basic version is free. An optional premium subscription unlocks more detailed reports and advanced features.
Creating a Guest Network is straightforward: in the app, go to More > Guest Network and turn it on. Give your guests a separate Wi-Fi name and password so they can access the internet without reaching your main network and personal devices.
Firmware updates come through the app. When an update is available, the app sends a notification and you can update with one tap.
If you use TP-Link's Tapo smart home devices (smart plugs, cameras, light bulbs), they integrate with the Deco ecosystem, letting you manage your smart home and your network from the same app.
Compared to Eero: Deco is generally cheaper for the same coverage area. Eero has a simpler, more polished app and integrates more deeply with Amazon Alexa. For most people, Deco offers outstanding value.
