Teleparty (previously called Netflix Party) is a free browser extension that lets you watch Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, or Amazon Prime Video at exactly the same time as someone else — even if you're in different cities or states. It syncs playback so everyone pauses and resumes together, and adds a group chat window on the right side of the screen.
This has become popular for families who want to watch movies together despite being apart. You could watch a holiday movie with a grandchild in another state, or do a regular "movie night" with siblings across the country.
Teleparty works only on a computer, in the Chrome, Edge, or Firefox browser. It does not work on tablets, phones, or smart TVs directly — the person hosting the watch party must be on a computer with the extension installed. Guests also need the extension installed on their computers to join.
Everyone in the party needs their own subscription to the streaming service being watched. You're not sharing an account — Teleparty just synchronizes playback so everyone is watching the same thing at the same time from their own accounts.
The chat window on the side shows everyone who's watching and lets you comment, react with emoji, and share reactions in real time. You can turn chat off if you just want synchronized viewing without the side conversation.
Setup takes about five minutes: install the extension, start a watch party, and share the link. Anyone with the link and the extension can join.
