    1

    Unbox and identify your components

    ~27s
Open the box and lay everything out on a table. You should see the Base Station (a larger white unit), the Keypad (a touch panel), and smaller sensors — door/window contact sensors look like two small rectangular pieces that attach one to the door and one to the frame. Check your packing list to make sure nothing is missing before you start.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Keep the box and packing materials for 30 days in case you need to return or exchange anything.

    2

Place the Base Station and Keypad

    ~30s
Put the Base Station on a shelf or table near the center of your home — not in a closet, since it needs a clear signal path to sensors and your router. Plug it into an outlet using the included power cord. Mount the Keypad near your main entry door using the adhesive on the back; peel the backing off and press firmly for 30 seconds.

    Warning

Do not place the Base Station in a metal cabinet or directly on the floor — both can weaken the wireless signal to your sensors.

    3

    Attach door and window sensors

    ~32s
Each door/window sensor comes in two pieces: one for the door itself and one for the door frame. They need to sit close together — within about an inch — when the door is closed. Peel the adhesive backing off each piece, press the frame piece onto the door frame, and the other piece onto the door itself. The sensor detects when the two pieces separate (meaning the door opened).

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: For sliding glass doors, attach the sensor to the top rail and top of the sliding panel — the adhesive holds better there than on the side track.

    4

Set your secret PIN on the Keypad

    ~27s
The Keypad will guide you through creating your master PIN when you first power on the system. Choose a 4-digit number you can remember easily but that others would not guess — avoid birthdays, addresses, or "1234." You will use this PIN to arm and disarm your system every day, so pick something you will not forget. You can also set a duress PIN (a second PIN that silently alerts the monitoring center that you are being forced to disarm).
    5

Download the SimpliSafe app and connect to Wi-Fi

    ~22s
Search for "SimpliSafe" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and install the free app. Open it and create a SimpliSafe account using your email address. The app will guide you through connecting your Base Station to your home Wi-Fi network — you will need your Wi-Fi password ready. Once connected, you can arm, disarm, and check sensor status from anywhere.
    6

Test the system before relying on it

    ~34s
Inside the SimpliSafe app, find the "Test Mode" option — this lets you trigger sensors without setting off a full alarm or alerting monitoring. Open a door with a sensor attached and confirm the app shows that sensor as triggered. Walk past a motion sensor if you have one and watch for the alert. If any sensor does not register in the app, recheck its placement and make sure the two pieces are close enough together when closed.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Test every sensor at least once a month to make sure batteries are still working — SimpliSafe sends low-battery alerts through the app automatically.

SimpliSafe is a home security system you set up yourself — no tools, no drilling, and no technician visit needed. Everything sticks to your walls and doors with adhesive strips that peel off cleanly when you move. You purchase the hardware once, and you can choose whether or not to pay for professional monitoring. If you skip monitoring, the alarm will still sound loudly if a sensor is triggered — you just handle calling for help yourself. If you add 24/7 professional monitoring, a real person at SimpliSafe's monitoring center will contact you and, if needed, dispatch police or fire services.

When your SimpliSafe package arrives, you will find a Base Station (the brain of the system), a Keypad (where you enter your PIN), and a set of sensors for doors, windows, and possibly motion. The Base Station connects to your home Wi-Fi and cellular networks, so it keeps working even if your internet goes down. The keypad mounts near your front door.

Setting up SimpliSafe does not require any special technical knowledge. You place each sensor, set a PIN you will remember, download the app, and test that everything is working. The whole process takes most people about 30 to 45 minutes. This guide walks you through each step so you can feel confident your home is protected.
