Spotify is the world's most popular music streaming service with over 100 million songs. You can use it free (with ads between songs) or subscribe to Spotify Premium (no ads, offline downloads, and higher quality audio). The free version still lets you search, browse, and play music — ads play every few songs.
Download Spotify from the App Store or Google Play Store. Create an account with your email or sign up with your Google, Facebook, or Apple account. Once in, you can search for any artist, album, or song using the search bar. Tap the magnifying glass icon, type a name, and tap to play.
To build a playlist: tap "Your Library" at the bottom, then "+" to create a new playlist. Name it and start adding songs. While playing any song, tap the three dots (menu) and "Add to Playlist" to add it to your collection. Spotify also creates personalized playlists for you based on your listening — check "Made For You" on the Home screen.
For listening at home, connect Spotify to your smart speaker. In the Alexa app or Google Home app, link your Spotify account as the default music service. Then say "Alexa, play classic rock on Spotify."
Spotify's "Discover Weekly" playlist updates every Monday with 30 songs it thinks you will like based on your listening habits — a great way to find new music.
