How to Set Up Ring Alarm Home Security

Install a Ring Alarm system yourself in about an hour with no tools and no installer visit.

    1

Download the Ring app and make an account

    ~15s
On your phone, open the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android) and install the Ring app. Open it and tap "Create Account" with your email.
    2

    Plug in the base station

    ~15s
Place the round base station somewhere central, like a hallway or living room, and plug it into a wall outlet. The light on the front will turn blue when it is ready.
    3

Add the base station in the app

    ~15s
In the Ring app, tap "Set Up a Device" and pick Alarm Base Station. Scan the QR code sticker on the bottom of the base with your phone, and follow the prompts to connect to your Wi-Fi.
    4

Add sensors one at a time

    ~15s
In the app, tap "Set Up a Device" again and pick Contact Sensor or Motion Detector. Pull the plastic tab on the back of each sensor to wake it up, then stick it on the door or window frame with the included tape.
    5

    Turn on professional monitoring (optional)

    ~15s
In the app menu, tap Ring Protect Plans and choose Ring Protect Pro ($20/month). This unlocks 24/7 monitoring that calls police when the alarm goes off and you do not answer.

Ring Alarm is a do-it-yourself home security system that comes in a kit with a base station, keypad, door sensors, and a motion detector. You stick the sensors on doors and windows with peel-off tape — no drilling.

The monthly monitoring plan costs about $20 and includes professional 24/7 monitoring that will call the police if the alarm goes off. Without the plan, you still get alerts on your phone.
