Getting a new iPhone is exciting, and setting it up correctly from the start will save you headaches later. This guide walks you through the entire process from unboxing to your first apps.

Turn on your new iPhone by holding the side button until the Apple logo appears. Select your language and region. The iPhone asks if you want to set it up as new or transfer from another device.

If you have an old iPhone: place both phones next to each other. A "Quick Start" animation appears on the old phone — hold the new phone's camera over it. Your settings, accounts, and data transfer automatically over WiFi. This can take 30 minutes to several hours depending on how much data you have.

If this is your first iPhone: choose "Set Up Manually." Connect to your WiFi network and sign in with your Apple ID (or create one for free). Set up Face ID or Touch ID by following the on-screen instructions — this lets you unlock your phone with your face or fingerprint.

Choose whether to enable Location Services (recommended for maps, weather, and Find My iPhone). Set up Siri by reading a few phrases aloud. Choose your display preferences (text size, display zoom).

Once at the home screen, open the App Store (blue icon with an "A") and download the apps you need: your bank's app, email, WhatsApp, social media, and anything else you use regularly. Sign in to each with your existing accounts.

Set up your email: Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account. Choose your email provider (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) and sign in. Set up your voicemail: open the Phone app → Voicemail → Set Up Now.
