How to Set Up Google Nest Cam

Install a Nest Cam in your home or yard and watch live video on your phone from anywhere.

    1

    Install the Google Home app

    ~15s
On your phone, open the App Store or Play Store and install the Google Home app. Sign in with the Google account you want to use for the camera.
    2

    Plug in the camera

    ~15s
Plug the Nest Cam into a wall outlet with the power cable that came in the box. A small light on the front will blink while it is starting up.
    3

Add the device in Google Home

    ~15s
Open Google Home, tap the plus sign at the top left, and pick "Set up device". Choose "New device" and let the app scan for nearby cameras. It should find your Nest Cam automatically.
    4

    Connect to Wi-Fi

    ~15s
Follow the prompts to join your home Wi-Fi network. Pick the room where the camera is (like Front Door or Living Room) so alerts make sense later.
    5

    Place the camera and test

    ~15s
Screw or stick the camera where you want it — many people put one at the front door and one inside. Open Google Home, tap the camera, and check that you see live video. Walk in front of it to confirm motion alerts work.

Google Nest Cam is a small security camera that connects to your Wi-Fi and streams video to your phone. You can talk through the camera, get alerts when someone walks by, and save clips when motion happens.

The setup is done through the Google Home app and takes about 15 minutes. Basic alerts are free, and the Nest Aware plan ($8 a month) unlocks video recording history.
