How to Set Up Medical ID on iPhone

Store your allergies, medications, and emergency contacts on your iPhone so first responders can see them even when the phone is locked.

    1

    Open the Health app

    ~15s
Find the Health app on your iPhone — the icon is a white heart on a pink background. If you cannot find it, swipe down on the home screen and search for "Health."
    2

    Tap your profile picture

    ~15s
Tap the small profile picture or initials in the top-right corner of the Health app. Scroll down and tap Medical ID.
    3

Tap Edit and fill in your info

    ~15s
Tap Edit in the top-right. Enter your date of birth, height, weight, blood type, allergies, and any medications. Leave blanks if you do not know — do not guess.
    4

    Add emergency contacts

    ~15s
Scroll to Emergency Contacts, tap the green plus, and pick someone from your contacts. You can add more than one — include at least one family member and your doctor.
    5

    Turn on Show When Locked

    ~15s
Near the top of the edit screen, toggle Show When Locked to on. This lets emergency responders see your Medical ID from the lock screen without your passcode. Tap Done to save.

Medical ID is a built-in iPhone feature that shows your medical information on the lock screen during an emergency. Paramedics and hospital staff are trained to look for it — they can see your allergies, medications, and emergency contacts without needing your passcode.

Setting it up takes about five minutes and could save your life. The information stays private at all other times — only someone pressing the emergency button on a locked phone will see it.
