Having email on your phone means you can read and respond to messages wherever you are — no need to sit at a computer. Setting it up takes about two minutes, and your phone handles the technical details automatically.
On iPhone, the built-in Mail app supports all major email providers. Go to Settings then Mail then Accounts then Add Account. You will see options for Microsoft Outlook, Google (Gmail), Yahoo, AOL, and others. Tap your email provider and sign in with your email address and password. The phone configures everything automatically. Once added, open the Mail app to see your inbox.
If your email provider is not listed, tap "Other" and enter your email address, password, and the mail server settings. Your email provider can give you these settings — search for "[your provider name] mail server settings" online.
On Android, the Gmail app handles most email accounts, not only Gmail. Open the Gmail app, tap your profile icon (or menu), then "Add another account." Choose your provider (Google, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) and enter your email and password. The app handles the configuration automatically.
You can also use the official app for your email provider. Microsoft Outlook has its own app (great for Outlook, Hotmail, and work email). Yahoo Mail has its own app. These are free on both iPhone and Android.
After setting up, you will receive push notifications when new emails arrive (you can turn these off or customize them in your notification settings). Your email syncs automatically — messages you read on your phone are marked as read on your computer too, and messages you send from your phone appear in your Sent folder everywhere.
If you have multiple email accounts, you can add them all to the same app. The Mail app (iPhone) and Gmail app (Android) both support multiple accounts, and you can switch between them by tapping the account selector at the top of the inbox.
