The Amazon Echo is a smart speaker powered by Alexa. Once set up, you can ask it to play music, set timers, answer questions, control smart home devices, make calls, and more — all by voice. Setup takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Plug the Echo into a power outlet and wait for the light ring to turn orange (setup mode). Download the Amazon Alexa app from the App Store or Google Play Store and sign in with your Amazon account. The app should detect your Echo automatically — if not, tap Devices → "+" → Add Device → Amazon Echo.
The app walks you through connecting to WiFi (select your network and enter the password). Once connected, personalize by setting your location for weather and news, choosing a default music service, and linking smart home devices if you have any.
Test by saying "Alexa, what time is it?" or "Alexa, play some music." Place the Echo in a central location — kitchen and living room work well. Alexa hears you across the room, but walls and background noise reduce accuracy.
