    1

Open Google Maps after parking your car

    ~16s
Before walking away from your car, open the Google Maps app on your phone. Make sure GPS is enabled on your phone so Maps can see your current location. The blue dot on the map should be at or near where your car is parked.
    2

Tap your location dot to save parking

    ~30s
Tap the blue dot on the map that shows your current location. A menu pops up from the bottom of the screen. Look for an option that says "Save your parking" or "Set as parking location." Tap it. A blue P marker will appear on the map, and a card at the bottom will confirm your parking spot is saved.

    Quick Tip

If you do not see a "Save your parking" option when you tap the blue dot, try searching for it: tap the search bar and type "Set as parking location."

    3

Add notes or a parking timer (optional)

    ~19s
After saving your spot, a card appears at the bottom of the screen with your parking location. Tap "More info" to add a note (like "Row D, near the elevator") or to start a parking timer. If you set a timer, Google Maps will send you a reminder notification before the time runs out.
    4

    Navigate back to your car

    ~18s
When you are ready to return to your car, open Google Maps. The blue P marker will be visible on the map. Tap the marker, and a card appears with your saved parking notes. Tap "Directions" or "Walk to parking" to get walking directions from your current location back to your car.
    5

    Clear the saved parking spot

    ~18s
After you find your car and leave, tap the blue P marker on the map. Tap "Clear" or "Remove" to delete the saved spot. This keeps your map clean for the next time you need to use the feature.

    Quick Tip

Saved parking spots automatically expire after 24 hours, but clearing it manually keeps things tidy.

If you have ever parked in an unfamiliar city, a large shopping mall parking lot, or a multi-level garage and then spent 20 minutes trying to find your car, Google Maps has a feature that solves this problem.

Google Maps lets you save your parking spot with a tap. After saving, a blue P marker appears on the map at the exact location where your car is parked. When you are ready to return, you tap the marker and get walking directions back to your car.

The feature also lets you add notes (like "Level 3, Section B") and set a parking timer so you get an alert before a paid parking meter expires.

On iPhones, the parking spot feature works when Google Maps is connected to your car through Bluetooth or CarPlay. When you disconnect from your car's Bluetooth, Maps may automatically ask if you want to save your parking location. On Android, this automatic prompt works similarly.

You can also save your parking spot manually at any time — before or after you get out of the car — which is useful if your car does not have Bluetooth.

Saved parking spots are stored only on your device and disappear after 24 hours, or when you delete them. They are not shared with anyone else.

This feature works best in areas where Google Maps has detailed location data. In very remote areas or underground garages where GPS signals are weak, the saved location may be slightly off.
