    1

    Download and open Medisafe

    ~15s
On your phone, open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android). Search for "Medisafe Medication Management." Download the free version and open the app. You will be asked to create a free account with your email address.
    2

    Add each of your medications

    ~23s
Tap the plus (+) button to add a medication. Type the name — Medisafe has a large database and will usually find it automatically as you type. Select the correct medication and then enter the dose (for example, 10 mg). Repeat this for each medication you take.

    Quick Tip

Have your pill bottles on the table while you do this so you can copy the name and dosage exactly as written.

    3

Set reminder times for each medication

    ~16s
For each medication, choose how often you take it — once a day, twice a day, with meals, etc. Then set the specific time for each dose. Tap the time field and use the scroll wheel to choose the hour and minute. Confirm and save.
    4

    Allow notifications from the app

    ~19s
When the app asks permission to send you notifications, tap Allow. Without this, you will not receive alerts. If you accidentally tapped Don't Allow, go to your phone's Settings, find Medisafe, and turn notifications on manually.

    Warning

If notifications are turned off, the reminders will not come through. Always confirm the app has permission to notify you.

    5

Confirm doses and review your log

    ~25s
When your reminder goes off, open the notification and tap Taken. If you missed a dose, the app will ask what you want to do — mark it as missed or taken late. You can review your dose history at any time inside the app under the History tab.

    Quick Tip

Show the history log to your doctor at your next appointment. It gives them a clear picture of how consistently you have been taking your medications.

Forgetting to take a medication — or forgetting whether you already took it — is one of the most common problems people face when managing their health. A medication reminder app helps by alerting you at the right time and keeping a log of every dose.

Medisafe is one of the most popular free medication apps in the United States and is available for both iPhone and Android. It lets you add each of your medications, set specific times for each one, and receive a notification on your phone when it is time to take it. When you take the pill, you tap "Taken" in the app and it records the time. If you miss a dose, it sends a follow-up alert.

Beyond reminders, Medisafe also has features that help with safety. It can warn you if two of your medications have a known interaction (a situation where one drug affects how another works in your body). It can remind you when you are running low and it is time to refill. Some versions let a family member or caregiver receive alerts if you miss a dose.

Other good apps in this category include MyTherapy, Roundhealth, and the medication section built into the iPhone Health app. All of them work similarly: you enter your medications, set times, and confirm each dose.

Setting up the app takes about ten minutes for most people. You will want to have your medication bottles nearby so you can enter the names and dosages accurately.

Quick Tip: Set your medication reminder for a time tied to something you already do each day — right after breakfast or right before brushing your teeth at night. Pairing a new habit with an existing one makes it much easier to remember.

Important disclaimer: This guide is for informational purposes only. A medication reminder app does not replace professional medical advice. Always take medications as prescribed by your doctor and consult a pharmacist or physician if you have questions about dosages or interactions.
