    1

    Open Photopea

    ~15s
Open any web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge) and go to photopea.com. The photo editor will load in your browser — no download or sign-in needed. You will see a work area in the middle, a toolbox on the left, and panels on the right.
    2

    Open Your Photo

    ~17s
Click File at the top-left corner, then click Open. A file browser will appear — navigate to the photo on your computer and double-click it. The photo will open as a layer in Photopea. You can also drag and drop a photo directly from your desktop into the Photopea window.
    3

    Crop and Resize

    ~26s
To crop the photo, click the Crop tool in the toolbox on the left (it looks like two overlapping right angles). Click and drag over the area you want to keep, then press Enter. To resize the whole image, click Image at the top, then click Image Size. Type in the dimensions you want and click OK.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If you hold Shift while dragging a crop box, the crop will maintain a square shape. This is useful for profile photos.

    4

    Adjust Brightness and Color

    ~15s
Click Image at the top, then Adjustments, then Brightness/Contrast. Drag the Brightness slider right to make the photo brighter or left to darken it. Drag Contrast right to make colors more vivid. Click OK when the photo looks the way you want.
    5

    Add Text to a Photo

    ~18s
Click the Text tool in the left toolbox (it looks like the letter T). Click anywhere on your photo and start typing. Use the options bar at the top to change the font, size, and color of the text. You can then click and drag the text to move it wherever you want.
    6

    Export and Save Your Work

    ~28s
When you are finished editing, click File > Export As. Choose JPEG for photos or PNG if the image has a transparent background. A dialog will let you choose the quality level — 80–90% is a good balance of quality and file size. Click Save, choose where to save the file on your computer, and click Save again.

    Warning

Photopea does not auto-save your project. If you close the browser tab, you will lose unsaved changes. Export a copy of your work every time you make significant changes.

Photopea is a free photo editing tool that runs entirely in your web browser. You do not need to download or install anything, and you do not need to create an account. Go to photopea.com, and you can start editing photos straight away.

Photopea's interface looks very similar to Adobe Photoshop, so if you have used Photoshop before, you will find it familiar. If you have not used Photoshop, do not worry — this guide covers the most useful basic functions for everyday photo editing.

With Photopea you can crop and resize photos, remove or change a background, adjust brightness and color, add text to images, remove blemishes or unwanted objects, and combine multiple images. These are the tasks most people need for personal projects like creating greeting cards, editing photos before printing, or making simple graphics.

Photopea is free, but it does show small advertisements at the side of the screen. These are not intrusive and you can ignore them. There is a paid option to remove ads, but it is entirely optional.

One important thing to know: Photopea does not automatically save your work. When you are done editing, you need to export your file using the File > Export As menu. If you close the browser tab without exporting, your changes will be lost. It is a good idea to save frequently by exporting as you go.

Photopea works on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, and iPad. On a phone, the screen may be too small to work comfortably, so a computer or tablet is recommended.
