OfferUp is a free app that connects buyers and sellers in the same area. You can sell furniture, clothing, electronics, toys, tools, and almost anything else to someone who can come pick it up — no shipping required. You can also ship items nationwide if you prefer.
OfferUp was designed with safety in mind, and it is generally considered safer than older platforms like Craigslist. Every buyer and seller has a public profile with ratings and reviews, so you can see what others have said about someone before agreeing to meet them. OfferUp also partners with police departments across the country to designate "Community MeetUp Spots" — safe, public locations (often police station parking lots or well-lit public areas) where you can complete your transaction.
The app is free to download on iPhone and Android. Listing an item takes less than five minutes. You can post up to 100 photos of your item and add a price, description, and category. Buyers can make offers (hence the name), and you can accept, decline, or counter-offer.
OfferUp also has a "shipping" feature — if you want to sell to buyers outside your local area, you can ship items through OfferUp and get a prepaid label. OfferUp handles the transaction and holds payment until the buyer confirms receipt, similar to eBay's system.
Because transactions are mostly in person with cash or in-app payment, there are no listing fees and no selling percentages taken from local cash transactions. OfferUp only takes a fee if you use their in-app payment or shipping system.
