    1

Make sure Notion AI is enabled on your account

    ~38s
Open Notion and click on "Settings & Members" in the left sidebar. Look for a section called "Notion AI" or "Add-ons." If you have not activated it yet, you may see a button to start a free trial or learn about the add-on pricing. Once Notion AI is active on your account, the AI features will appear automatically on all your pages. If you are using a free plan, you will get a small number of free AI requests to try before being prompted to subscribe.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If Notion AI is available in your account, you will see a small sparkle or star icon appear when you hover over or click on a page.

    2

Start a new AI draft using the Space bar

    ~27s
Click on any empty line in a Notion page. Press the Space bar once on a blank line, and a small AI prompt box will appear. Type what you want the AI to write — for example, "Write an introduction for a neighborhood newsletter" or "Draft a polite email declining a meeting invitation." Press Enter and Notion AI will generate the text directly in your page. You can then edit it, delete it, or ask AI to revise it.
    3

Improve text you have already written

    ~27s
Click and drag to highlight the text you want to improve. A small toolbar will appear above the highlighted text — look for the AI or sparkle option. Tap it to see options like "Fix grammar and spelling," "Make it shorter," "Make it longer," "Improve the writing," and "Change tone." Choose the option you want, and Notion AI will rewrite the highlighted text. You will see both versions and can choose to keep the AI's version or go back to your original.
    4

Summarize a long page of notes

    ~33s
Click at the bottom of a page that has a lot of content — like a long set of meeting notes or a research document. Press the Space bar or type "/ai" and choose "Summarize" from the options. Notion AI will read the content of your page and write a concise summary below. This is useful when you need to quickly remind yourself what a long document covers without re-reading the whole thing.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If your page has sub-pages (linked pages within pages), Notion AI may not automatically read those sub-pages — it primarily summarizes the content visible on the current page.

    5

Ask Notion AI a question about your own page

    ~27s
Click on an empty line in your page and press Space bar. Instead of asking for a draft, ask a direct question about the content on that page. For example: "What action items were mentioned in these notes?" or "Who is responsible for each task listed here?" Notion AI will read your page content and answer based on what it finds. This turns your notes into something you can actually query, which saves time when looking for specific information.
    6

    Translate text into another language

    ~26s
Highlight the text you want to translate. Click the AI option in the toolbar that appears. Choose "Translate" and then select the target language from the list. Notion AI supports many major languages including Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and others. The translated text will replace your selection or appear below it, depending on your settings. This is helpful if you need to communicate with someone in another language or understand text that was shared with you in a foreign language.

Notion is a popular app for taking notes, organizing projects, and managing information. Notion AI adds an artificial intelligence writing assistant built right into your existing Notion pages — you do not need to switch to a separate app or copy and paste text anywhere.

With Notion AI, you can ask it to write a first draft of something for you, improve text you have already written, make a long document shorter, translate text into another language, or summarize a page full of notes into a few key bullet points.

Notion AI is an add-on feature that costs extra beyond the regular Notion plan. As of early 2026, it costs $10 per month per member on top of your Notion subscription. If you are on a free Notion plan, you get a limited number of free AI uses before being asked to pay. The add-on is available to both individual and team Notion accounts.

Notion AI works wherever you are writing in Notion. You can invoke it with a keyboard shortcut (press the Space bar on an empty line, or type a forward slash "/" and choose an AI option from the menu that appears). You can also highlight existing text and ask AI to do something with it.

One of the most powerful uses is asking Notion AI questions about content already in your page. For example, if you have a long page of meeting notes, you can ask "What are the main decisions from this meeting?" and Notion AI will read your notes and give you an answer. This works well for anyone who keeps a lot of information in Notion and wants to find or summarize it quickly.
