How to Set Parental Controls on Netflix for Grandkids

Netflix's parental controls let you create a kid-friendly profile, set maturity ratings, and use a PIN to block adult content.

    1

Create a Kids Profile on Netflix

    ~31s
Open Netflix and click or tap on the profile icon at the top right. Click "Manage Profiles" → "Add Profile." Enter a name like "Kids" or a grandchild's name. Turn on the "Kids" toggle — this automatically applies the strictest content filters. Click Save. This profile now appears on the account select screen whenever anyone opens Netflix. Grandchildren can use this profile and will only see age-appropriate content.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: A Kids Profile cannot be changed without logging into the main Netflix account. Children cannot turn off the content filters from within a Kids Profile.

    2

Add a PIN to your adult profiles

    ~35s
To prevent kids from switching to your profile: go to Netflix.com in a web browser (this doesn't work from the app). Click your profile icon at the top rightAccount → scroll down to "Profile & Parental Controls" → click on your profile → "Profile Lock" → enter your Netflix password → turn on "Require a PIN to access [your profile] on all devices" → set a 4-digit PINSave. Now your profile requires a PIN to open.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Choose a PIN that is different from your phone PIN or other common numbers. Write it down somewhere safe in case you forget it.

    3

Set maturity rating limits on any profile

    ~22s
You can also set a maximum content rating on any profile (not just Kids). Go to Netflix.com → AccountProfile & Parental Controls → click any profile → "Viewing Restrictions" → set the highest maturity level allowed (Little Kids, Older Kids, Teens, Adults). Set it to "Older Kids" or "Teens" for a pre-teen. Any content above that rating will be hidden from that profile.
    4

Review watch history to see what was viewed

    ~21s
If you want to check what has been watched on any profile: go to Netflix.com → AccountProfile & Parental Controls → click a profile → "Viewing Activity." This shows every title watched with dates and times. You can also delete individual items from the viewing history if you want to remove something from the algorithm's recommendations.

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services in the world, and if your grandchildren or great-grandchildren visit your home, they may want to watch shows and movies on your account. Netflix offers two main ways to keep younger viewers safe: a dedicated Kids Profile and a Profile Lock (PIN) that controls what each account can access.

A Kids Profile automatically limits what can be watched to content rated TV-Y, TV-Y7, TV-G, and TV-PG — age-appropriate shows and movies. It also hides the browsing of adult content entirely. A Profile Lock lets you add a PIN to any profile so that children can't switch from their profile to yours and watch content intended for adults.

This guide walks you through setting both up in just a few minutes.
