Life360 is a family location-sharing app that shows where all connected family members are on a map in real time. It is widely used for peace of mind — parents tracking teenage drivers, adult children checking on aging parents, or spouses confirming a safe arrival after a long trip.
All family members download the app and join a shared "Circle." Each person's phone reports its location, which others can see on the shared map. If someone's phone battery dies or they lose signal, the last known location is shown.
Life360 also has a feature called Place Alerts. You can set up locations — home, a doctor's office, a grocery store — and receive a notification when a family member arrives or leaves that place. This is particularly useful for caregivers who want to know when an elderly parent leaves home or arrives at a destination.
The free version of Life360 includes basic location sharing, a 2-day location history, and unlimited circles. Life360 Plus (about $9.99/month) adds crash detection, emergency response, and a longer location history.
Privacy is worth discussing before setting up Life360. All family members see each other's location — it is mutual, not one-directional. Everyone in the circle should agree to participate. The app shows battery level alongside location, which many families find useful as a gentle check-in tool.
