The Weather app on iPhone was significantly upgraded with iOS 16 and later, making it one of the most detailed and visually rich weather apps available — and it is completely free and built in.
Most people only see the main temperature on the app. But scrolling down reveals much more useful information: hourly forecasts for the next 24 hours, 10-day outlook, air quality index (important for people with respiratory conditions), UV index, wind speed and direction, precipitation probability and intensity, sunrise and sunset times, and moon phases.
Weather alerts
: The app shows government-issued severe weather alerts (tornado warnings, flash flood watches, winter storm warnings, etc.) for your location. You get notifications directly on your phone when alerts are issued.
Weather maps
: Swipe down to the bottom of the app to see a precipitation map that animates to show where rain and snow are moving — very useful for planning outdoor activities.
Multiple locations
: You can add multiple cities to monitor — useful for checking weather at a destination before travel, or seeing weather where family members live.
The app uses weather data from multiple sources including The Weather Channel and government meteorological agencies, providing detailed and generally accurate forecasts.
