How to Make Text Bigger on Your iPhone

If text on your iPhone is hard to read, you can make it larger — and even bolder — in a few taps. This guide shows you how to adjust text size, display zoom, and accessibility settings.

    1

    Make all text larger

    ~24s
Go to SettingsDisplay & BrightnessText Size. Drag the slider to the right to increase text size. The text preview at the top of the screen updates live so you can see exactly what each size looks like. Choose whatever feels comfortable to read.

    Quick Tip

Most people find text size 5 or 6 (out of 8) the most comfortable. Go bigger if you need to — there is no wrong answer.

    2

    Turn on Bold Text

    ~15s
Go to SettingsDisplay & BrightnessBold Text. Toggle it ON. Bold text is darker and thicker, which many people find easier to read even without making it larger. This takes effect immediately with no restart needed.
    3

    Enable larger accessibility text sizes

    ~20s
If the regular text size slider does not go big enough, go to SettingsAccessibilityDisplay & Text SizeLarger Text. Toggle "Larger Accessibility Sizes" ON. Now go back to SettingsDisplay & BrightnessText Size and drag the slider — you will notice it now goes much further to the right for extra-large sizes.
    4

    Zoom the entire display

    ~24s
If you want everything — icons, buttons, images, not just text — to be bigger, go to SettingsDisplay & BrightnessDisplay Zoom → select "Larger Text" (on older iPhones) or increase the zoom slider. This reshuffles your home screen to show fewer, larger icons. Tap "Apply" and your iPhone will restart.

    Warning

Display Zoom makes everything bigger but shows less on screen at one time. If that becomes inconvenient, you can always switch back.

    5

Adjust text size in individual apps

    ~21s
Some apps (like Messages, Safari, Mail) let you change text size separately. In Safari, tap the "AA" button in the address bar to make web page text larger or smaller. In Messages, the main text size setting controls message text size. In Mail, go to SettingsMailPreview to show more lines of each email in your inbox.

If you find yourself squinting at your iPhone screen, holding the phone at arm's length, or struggling to read small menu text — you are not alone, and you do not have to put up with it. iPhone has several built-in settings that make text and the whole display bigger and easier to see.

These settings are free, built in, and completely reversible. You can turn them up and down as much as you like.

The three main things you can change are: 1. **Text size** — makes all text in apps and menus larger 2. **Bold text** — makes all text darker and heavier, easier to read 3. **Display Zoom** — makes everything on screen bigger, including app icons, buttons, and images

There is also a feature called "Larger Accessibility Sizes" that lets you go even bigger than the normal slider allows. If standard Large text is still not big enough, this unlocks extra-large sizes.

These settings apply across your entire iPhone — not just one app. Once you set them, every app, every menu, and every notification will use the larger text.
