How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone as a Reading Aid

iPhone has a built-in magnifier that turns your camera into a powerful magnifying glass — useful for reading small print on menus, labels, and documents.

    1

Find and open the Magnifier app

    ~29s
The Magnifier app is built into every iPhone running iOS 14 or later. Swipe down from the middle of your Home Screen to open Search, and type "Magnifier." Tap the app to open it. It shows a live camera view with a zoom slider at the bottom.

    Quick Tip

Add Magnifier to your Control Center for even faster access: go to SettingsControl Center → tap the + next to Magnifier. Then swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Center and tap the Magnifier icon any time.

    2

    Zoom in on small text

    ~19s
Hold your iPhone over the small text you want to read. Use the yellow zoom slider at the bottom of the screen — drag it to the right to zoom in. The camera will magnify the text on your screen. Use both hands if needed to keep the phone steady over the item you're reading.
    3

Freeze the image to read comfortably

    ~18s
Tap the shutter button (the white circle at the bottom) to freeze the magnified image on screen. Now you can set the phone down and read the frozen image comfortably without holding your arm in position. Tap the shutter button again to unfreeze and return to the live camera view.
    4

Use the filters to improve contrast

    ~18s
If the text is still hard to read even when magnified, tap the three-circle icon on the left side of the Magnifier screen to open filter options. Choose "Yellow on Black" or "White on Black" for high-contrast reading that many people with vision difficulties find much easier to read than standard color.
