Hoopla is a free digital library service that works differently from Libby in one important way: there are no waiting lists. Whatever content is available in Hoopla's catalog, you can access it the moment you want it. No holds, no waiting — borrow and start watching, listening, or reading right away.
Like Libby, Hoopla is completely free for anyone with a public library card from a participating library. You connect your library card to your Hoopla account, and the library pays for your borrows on a per-use basis.
Hoopla has a much broader content mix than most people expect. It includes movies, TV shows, music albums, comic books, graphic novels, manga, ebooks, and audiobooks. The movie selection focuses more on classic films, independent releases, and older titles rather than brand-new blockbusters, but there is a large catalog to explore.
One feature that sets Hoopla apart is BingePass. Certain TV show publishers offer BingePass options, which means you can use one borrow to unlock access to an entire season or a large collection of content from that publisher, rather than counting each episode as a separate borrow.
Most libraries set a monthly borrow limit for Hoopla — typically around 10 borrows per month. This resets on the first of each month. Each movie, album, or book you access counts as one borrow. Downloads for offline viewing also count as a borrow and expire after the loan period.
The Hoopla app is available on iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, and most smart TVs, so you can watch on your big screen at home.
