    1

    Install the Honey browser extension

    ~32s
On your computer, open your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari). Go to joinhoney.com. Click the large button that says Get Honey for Free or Add to Chrome (or your specific browser). Your browser will ask you to confirm the installation — click Add Extension. Honey is now installed and will appear as a small orange icon in the top right corner of your browser.

    Quick Tip

Honey is a browser extension, which means it only works on a computer (desktop or laptop), not on your phone. For phone shopping, look into Rakuten or Ibotta instead, which have mobile apps.

    2

    Create a free Honey account

    ~20s
Click the orange Honey icon in your browser's top corner and click Sign Up. You can create an account with your email address or sign in with an existing PayPal or Google account. Creating an account lets Honey track your Gold rewards and savings history. You can also use Honey without an account, but you will not earn Gold points.
    3

    Shop as you normally do

    ~20s
Go to any online store where you plan to make a purchase and add items to your cart as usual. Proceed to checkout. On the checkout page, look for the small Honey button or popup that appears near the coupon code box. In some stores it appears automatically; in others you click the Honey icon in your browser.
    4

    Let Honey find coupon codes

    ~35s
Click the Apply Coupons button when Honey's popup appears. Honey will try available coupon codes one by one — this takes about 10 to 30 seconds. When finished, Honey shows you whether it found a working code and how much it saved you. The best code is applied automatically to your order. If no codes work, Honey will tell you that too so you are not left wondering.

    Quick Tip

Even when Honey does not find a coupon code, it may show you a lower price for the same item on a different website. If the savings are significant, it can be worth making your purchase through that alternative retailer.

    5

    Earn and redeem Honey Gold

    ~21s
At participating stores, Honey earns you Gold points in addition to any coupon savings. These points accumulate in your Honey account. When you have enough (equivalent to at least $1), go to joinhoney.com, sign in, and click your Gold balance. Choose a gift card from the available options and confirm your redemption. The gift card is delivered electronically to your email.

When you shop online, there is often a box at checkout labeled "coupon code" or "promo code." Most people skip right past it because they do not have a code handy. Honey is a free tool that fills in that box for you automatically — it searches the internet for working discount codes for that specific store and tries them all, applying the one that saves you the most money.

Honey is made by PayPal and has been used by over 17 million people. It works as a browser extension — a small add-on to your web browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) that runs in the background while you shop. When you reach a checkout page on a supported site, a small Honey popup appears. You click one button and Honey tests available coupon codes in seconds.

Supported stores number in the thousands, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Hotels.com, and many more. The savings vary — sometimes Honey finds a code worth five or ten percent off, and sometimes it finds nothing. But since using it costs nothing and takes only a second, it is worth having active whenever you shop online.

Honey also has a feature called Honey Gold, where you earn points on purchases at certain participating stores. These Gold points can be redeemed for gift cards to Amazon, Target, and other retailers. It functions similarly to cash back programs like Ibotta or Rakuten.

In addition to coupon codes, Honey has a price tracking feature called Droplist (on Amazon). You can add an item to your Droplist and Honey will notify you when the price drops to a level you set. This is useful for big purchases you are willing to wait on to get a better price.

Setting up Honey takes about two minutes. You install the browser extension once, and it runs automatically every time you shop online afterward.
