    1

    Plug in the HomePod

    ~31s
Place the HomePod or HomePod mini where you want it — on a table, shelf, or counter. Plug the power cable into the back of the device and then into a wall outlet. After a few seconds, a spinning white light will appear on top of the speaker, indicating it is powering on and ready to set up. Do not need to press anything else.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Place the HomePod on a solid, flat surface for the best sound. Avoid placing it in an enclosed cabinet or directly in a corner, as this can muffle the audio.

    2

Hold your iPhone near the HomePod

    ~21s
Unlock your iPhone and hold it a few inches away from the HomePod. A setup card should appear automatically on your iPhone screen within a few seconds. If it does not appear, make sure Bluetooth is turned on your iPhone (go to Settings, then Bluetooth, and toggle it on). The setup card will show the HomePod's name and offer to set it up.
    3

    Follow the on-screen setup steps

    ~33s
Tap Set Up on the card that appears. Your iPhone will walk you through several choices: which room the HomePod is in (Living Room, Kitchen, etc.), whether to allow Personal Requests (which lets the HomePod access your messages and calendar when it hears your voice), and whether to transfer your Apple ID settings. Read each option and tap Continue or Enable to accept, or choose more restrictive settings if you prefer more privacy.

    Warning

If you share the HomePod with others, you may want to turn off Personal Requests to prevent family members from reading your messages or accessing your calendar by speaking to it.

    4

Wait for the HomePod to finish setup

    ~21s
After you confirm your choices, the HomePod will take about 1 to 2 minutes to complete setup. It will connect to your Wi-Fi network using the same network your iPhone is on — you do not need to enter the Wi-Fi password separately. A chime sound will play when setup is complete, and the light on top will turn white steadily.
    5

Test Siri and start using your HomePod

    ~20s
Say "Hey Siri, play some music" out loud near the HomePod. It should respond and start playing music. Try a few other commands to get comfortable: "Hey Siri, set a timer for 5 minutes," "Hey Siri, what is today's date," or "Hey Siri, turn up the volume." Your HomePod is fully set up and ready to use.

The Apple HomePod and HomePod mini are smart speakers made by Apple. You can ask them questions, play music, set timers and alarms, control smart home devices, and make phone calls — all by speaking out loud.

HomePod runs Siri, Apple's voice assistant. You say "Hey Siri" followed by a request, and the HomePod responds. You can ask it things like: - "Hey Siri, play some jazz music." - "Hey Siri, what is the weather today?" - "Hey Siri, set a timer for 20 minutes." - "Hey Siri, call Mom." - "Hey Siri, turn off the kitchen lights." (if you have smart lights)

The HomePod mini is the smaller, less expensive model (around $99). The standard HomePod offers better sound quality and is larger. Both models set up the same way and have the same Siri capabilities.

Setting up a HomePod requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 or later and an Apple ID (the account you use for the App Store and iCloud). The HomePod connects to your home's Wi-Fi network — it does not use Bluetooth for its connection.

Setup is handled almost entirely by your iPhone. You hold the phone near the HomePod, and a setup screen appears on your phone automatically. You tap through a few options and it sets itself up. Most people complete the setup in under five minutes.

Once set up, anyone in your household can use "Hey Siri" to play music or ask questions. For personal features like sending messages or accessing calendar, the HomePod recognizes different voices and links each voice to the right person's Apple account.
