    1

    Open Google Maps

    ~15s
On your phone, open the Google Maps app (it has a red pin icon). On a computer, go to maps.google.com in your browser. Both work for Street View, but the experience is slightly different on each.
    2

    Search for a location

    ~17s
In the search bar at the top of Google Maps, type the address, business name, or place you want to explore — for example, "1600 Pennsylvania Ave Washington DC" or "Eiffel Tower Paris." Press Search. The map will zoom to that location and show a marker or highlighted location.
    3

Enter Street View on a phone

    ~31s
Tap the location or address pin on the map. A small info panel will appear at the bottom of the screen. If Street View photos are available, you will see a small street-level photo thumbnail. Tap on that thumbnail to enter Street View. You can then drag your finger across the screen to look left, right, up, and down. Tap the arrows on the ground to "walk" forward along the street.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Pinch to zoom in or out while in Street View to get a closer look at details like signs, building entrances, or storefronts.

    4

Enter Street View on a computer

    ~22s
On the Google Maps website, look for the yellow figure (called Pegman) in the bottom-right corner of the map. Click and drag Pegman onto any blue-highlighted street on the map — blue lines show where Street View is available. When you release Pegman, Street View will open. Use your mouse to click and drag to look around, and click the arrows to move forward.
    5

    Exit Street View

    ~26s
On your phone, tap the back arrow in the top-left corner of the Street View screen to return to the normal map. On a computer, click the "X" button in the top-right corner of the Street View panel, or click "Exit Street View" to go back to the aerial map view.

    Warning

Some remote or private areas do not have Street View coverage. If you do not see a photo thumbnail or blue street lines, Street View is not available for that location.

Google Street View is a feature inside Google Maps that lets you see 360-degree, ground-level photographs of streets, neighborhoods, businesses, and landmarks anywhere in the world. Instead of viewing a map from above, you can "walk" down a street and look around in every direction — as if you were standing there yourself.

Street View is useful in many practical ways. Before a doctor's appointment, you can look at the building entrance to know which door to use. Before a first visit to a restaurant, you can see the parking lot layout. Before traveling somewhere new, you can preview what the streets look like so the area feels less unfamiliar when you arrive.

Google has photographed over 220 countries and territories using special cameras mounted on cars, bikes, and even backpacks for trails and buildings. The images are updated regularly — though not in real time — so they accurately reflect what a location looks like in most cases.

Street View is available on the Google Maps website on a computer and inside the Google Maps app on your phone. It is completely free to use and requires no account or sign-in.

One thing to know: Street View is not a live feed. You are looking at photographs taken in the past, typically within the last few years. If a building has been demolished or a street has changed significantly, Street View may not reflect the current state.
