How to Set Up the Google Home App

Google Home is the app that controls all your Google smart home devices — speakers, displays, lights, thermostats, and cameras — from one place.

Download Google Home and sign in

Search "Google Home" in the App Store or Google Play. Download the app and sign in with your Google (Gmail) account.

Add your first device

Tap the "+" button in the top-left corner → "Set up device." Choose "New device" if you are adding a brand new Google product. The app guides you through plugging in the device and connecting it to Wi-Fi.

Have your Wi-Fi password handy — you will need to enter it during device setup.

Assign devices to rooms

During setup, or afterward by long-pressing a device tile, assign each device to a room. Create rooms like "Living Room," "Kitchen," or "Bedroom." This lets you control all devices in a room with one voice command.

Use the app to control devices manually

The main screen shows tiles for each device. Tap a speaker tile to play music. Tap a light tile to toggle it on or off. Tap a camera tile to view the live feed.

Create a morning routine

Tap "Automations" at the bottom → "+" → "Automate" → "Create Routine." Set a trigger (time, sunrise, or a voice command) and choose actions (turn on lights, play music, read weather). Tap "Save."
