iPhone has a built-in tool called Markup that lets you fill out PDF forms and add your signature to documents — directly on your phone, with no printer, scanner, or extra app required.
This is useful for medical forms, insurance documents, rental agreements, tax forms, and any other paperwork you receive as a PDF that needs to be filled in and returned.
There are two main scenarios:
Fillable PDFs
: Some PDFs have interactive form fields — text boxes that light up when you tap them. These are the easiest to fill out. Just tap each field and type your information.
Non-fillable PDFs (flat forms)
: Scanned documents or older forms may not have interactive fields. With Markup, you can add text boxes and type your information anywhere on the document, then add a signature.
Adding your signature
: iPhone Markup lets you create a stored signature by drawing it with your finger or Apple Pencil. Once saved, you can add it to any document with a single tap.
The filled PDF can be emailed, sent via AirDrop, saved to Files, or shared directly from the Markup screen.
No account or subscription is needed — Markup is completely free and built into every iPhone and iPad.
