    1

    Download Files by Google

    ~15s
Search "Files by Google" in the Google Play Store and install the free app. If you already have "Files" on your phone, check that it is the one made by Google (published by "Google LLC"). The icon shows a colorful document and folder.
    2

    Check your storage overview

    ~15s
Open Files by Google. The home screen shows your total storage used and available, plus how much is used by each category (Apps, Images, Videos, Audio, Documents, Other). Tap "Clean" at the bottom to go to storage cleanup suggestions.
    3

    Clean up junk files

    ~23s
Tap "Clean" → "Junk files." The app scans for temporary files, app cache, and residual downloads. Tap "Confirm and free up [X] MB" to delete them all at once. Junk files are safe to delete — they will rebuild as needed by apps. This often frees 500 MB to several GB instantly.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Clean junk files once a month to keep your phone running smoothly. It takes about 30 seconds.

    4

    Find and delete duplicate photos

    ~17s
In the "Clean" tab, tap "Duplicate files" or "Similar photos." Files by Google groups identical or near-identical photos together. Review each group and tap the photos you want to delete (it suggests keeping the best one). Tap "Move to trash." You can review the trash before permanently deleting.
    5

Delete large files you no longer need

    ~26s
Tap "Large files" to see every file over 10 MB, sorted by size. Scroll through and tap the checkbox on any file you no longer need — old video downloads, large documents, ZIP files. Tap "Move to trash." Videos are usually the biggest space users. Confirm deletion to free the space.

    Warning

Files moved to trash are held for 30 days before permanent deletion. You can restore them from trash in Files by Google if you delete something by accident.

Files by Google is a free storage management app from Google for Android phones. It helps you find and delete files that waste space — temporary files, duplicate photos, downloaded documents you no longer need, large videos, and offline content from apps.

Many Android users run out of storage without realizing how much space is being used by junk. Files by Google scans your phone and organizes what it finds into easy-to-clean categories.

The app also works as a regular file manager — you can browse all your files organized by type (images, videos, audio, documents), move files, and share files with nearby Android devices using Nearby Share.

Storage categories Files by Google identifies:

    - Junk files: App cache, temporary files - Large files: Videos, ZIP archives over 10 MB - Downloads: Files you downloaded and may not need - Duplicate files: Multiple copies of the same photo or file - Used apps: Apps you have not opened in weeks or months - Backed up photos: Photos already safely backed up to Google Photos that can be deleted from device storage

Files by Google is completely free and available in the Google Play Store. On many Android phones, it comes pre-installed.
