Keeping a family's schedule straight — kids' activities, doctor appointments, work meetings, grocery runs, school events — can feel like a full-time job on its own. Cozi is a free app designed specifically for this challenge. It gives every family member access to the same shared calendar, shopping lists, to-do lists, and meal planner, all in one place.
Cozi is available on iPhone, Android, and web browsers. One parent creates a family account at cozi.com, and then invites other family members via email or text. Each person installs the Cozi app on their own phone and joins the family account. Everyone then sees the same shared calendar.
Each family member gets their own color in the calendar, so at a glance you can see whose event is whose. Adding an event is straightforward: tap the + button, choose a date and time, select which family member the event is for (or choose "All" for family-wide events), and save. Everyone in the family sees it immediately on their own devices.
Cozi's shared shopping list is one of its most practical features. You can add items from anywhere, and when someone is at the store, they can see the list update in real time and check items off as they go. No more calling home to ask if you need bread. Each list item is visible to everyone, and you can create multiple lists — one for groceries, one for a home improvement project, one for holiday shopping.
The Meal Planner lets you plan dinners for the week and save recipes. If you find a recipe online, Cozi can import it automatically by URL. Planned meals can feed into your shopping list, so the ingredients appear automatically.
Cozi's journal feature allows family members to write notes and attach photos — kind of a private family diary. It's a nice place to record memories, trip notes, or school milestones.
Cozi Gold is the paid upgrade (around $30/year as of this writing). It removes ads and adds features like a birthday tracker, recipe sharing, and a printer-friendly agenda view. The free version is fully functional for most families.
For families who already use Google Calendar heavily, Cozi can sync with Google Calendar — events created in one appear in the other. However, Cozi has family-specific features (per-person color coding, shopping lists, meal planning) that go beyond what a plain Google Calendar offers.
