How to Change Your Default Browser

Set Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari as the default on Windows, Mac, iPhone, or Android so every link opens in your preferred browser.

    1

    On Windows

    ~15s
Open Settings, click Apps, then Default Apps. Search for your preferred browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.), click its name, then click Set Default at the top.
    2

    On Mac

    ~15s
Open System Settings, click Desktop & Dock, then scroll down to Default Web Browser. Click the dropdown and pick the browser you want.
    3

    On iPhone

    ~15s
Open Settings, scroll down and tap your preferred browser (for example, Chrome). Tap Default Browser App and pick it. iPhone requires the browser to be installed first.
    4

    On Android

    ~15s
Open Settings, tap Apps, then Default Apps or Choose Default Apps. Tap Browser App and pick the one you want.
    5

    Test the change

    ~15s
Open an email or document with a link and click it. The link should open in your new default browser. If it does not, restart the device and try again — the setting sometimes needs a reboot to take effect.

Your default browser is the one that opens whenever you click a link in email, a document, or another app. Windows comes set to Edge; Mac comes set to Safari; iPhone comes set to Safari; Android comes set to Chrome. You can change any of these in the settings.

If you prefer Firefox, Chrome, or another browser, switching the default takes under a minute and applies everywhere.
