Canva Video Editor: Create Social Videos, Slideshows, and Short Clips With Templates

Canva is primarily known as a graphic design tool, but it also includes a capable video editor that is well suited to creating social media content, slideshows, short promotional clips, and educational videos. If you already know how to use Canva for image designs, the video tools use the same interface — making the learning curve very short.

Canva's approach to video editing is template-based. You start from a pre-designed template — say, a birthday video slideshow, a product announcement for Instagram, or a professional LinkedIn intro clip — and swap out the placeholder content for your own photos, text, and footage. The layout, transitions, and timing are already set up for you. This makes it possible to produce a polished, on-brand video in thirty minutes even if you have never edited a video before.

A free Canva account gives you access to thousands of video templates and a large library of royalty-free music and sound effects. Canva Pro (a paid subscription) unlocks additional templates, a larger media library, background remover, and the ability to resize videos instantly for different platforms.

For more involved video projects — multi-camera shoots, complex color grading, or long-form content — a dedicated video editor like DaVinci Resolve or iMovie is a better choice.
