How to Read News on Your iPhone Using Apple News

Apple News is built into every iPhone and curates news stories based on your interests — from national news to local stories to topics you choose.

    1

    Open Apple News

    ~16s
Look for the News app on your iPhone — it has a white icon with a red "N." If you don't see it, swipe down on your home screen and search "News." Tap to open. On first launch, Apple News will show you a setup screen to choose topics.
    2

    Choose topics you care about

    ~22s
The app will show you a list of topics to follow: Politics, Health, Science, Sports, Entertainment, Food, Travel, Technology, and more. Tap the ones that interest you. You can also search for specific topics (like "gardening," "jazz music," or "local news") and follow those.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Type your city name in the search bar to find and follow your local newspaper or TV station's news feed.

    3

    Browse the Today Feed

    ~15s
The main screen (Today) shows a curated mix of top stories and articles based on your interests. Tap any headline to read the full article. When you're done, tap the back arrow to return to the feed. Swipe down to refresh for new stories.
    4

    Save articles to read later

    ~15s
See an interesting article but don't have time right now? Tap the bookmark icon (looks like a ribbon) on the story to save it. Find saved articles under the "Saved Stories" section in the Following tab.
    5

    Adjust what you see

    ~17s
Tap "Following" at the bottom of the app to manage your channels and topics. Add or remove topics anytime. If you see a source that you don't like or want to see less of, swipe left on a story from that source and tap "Show Less Like This" or "Block Channel."

Apple News is a free app built into every iPhone and iPad that collects stories from thousands of news sources and delivers them in one place. Instead of visiting multiple websites or buying newspapers, you can open one app and see news from sources like AP, Reuters, NPR, your local newspaper, and publications covering topics you care about.

You can tell Apple News what interests you — local news, health, politics, sports, entertainment, food, science — and it will prioritize stories on those topics. It also includes a Top Stories section with the most important news of the day regardless of topic.

Apple News+ is a paid tier that adds magazines and premium publications, but the free version of Apple News has more content than most people need.
