How to Make Text Bigger on an Android Phone

If the text on your Android phone is too small to read comfortably, a few settings changes can make everything larger — no glasses required.

    1

    Increase the font size

    ~32s
Go to SettingsDisplayFont Size and Style (or "Font Size" on some phones). A preview shows how text will look. Drag the slider to the right to increase the font size. Most Android phones offer 4-5 size options from small to largest. Choose "Large" or "Largest" for maximum readability. The change applies immediately across the entire phone — you will see the difference in your settings menu right away.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: On Samsung Galaxy phones: SettingsDisplayFont size and style → adjust the font size slider. On Google Pixel: SettingsDisplayFont size.

    2

Increase display size (makes everything bigger)

    ~29s
Font size only affects text. Display Size scales everything — icons, buttons, menus, and images as well. Go to SettingsDisplayDisplay Size (or "Screen Zoom" on Samsung phones). Drag the slider to the right to increase the scale. A preview shows how the home screen will look. Choosing a larger display size means fewer items fit on the screen at once, but everything becomes easier to see and tap. Most people find a combination of increased font size AND increased display size gives the best results.
    3

Use Magnification for a temporary close-up view

    ~36s
For reading small print on a website, menu, or document without changing your global settings: go to SettingsAccessibilityMagnification → enable "Magnification shortcut." Once enabled, triple-tap anywhere on the screen to zoom in on that area. Triple-tap again to zoom back out. You can also drag your finger across a magnified screen to look around. This is useful for moments when you need a closer look without changing any permanent settings.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: On some Android phones, you can also pinch-to-zoom on most web pages and photos. In Chrome, tap the three dots (⋮) → SettingsAccessibility → enable "Force enable zoom" so all web pages are zoomable.

    4

Change text size in specific apps

    ~25s
Some apps have their own text size settings independent of the system setting. In Gmail: tap the three-line menu (☰) → Settings → tap your email account → "Display density" and "Conversation list density." In the Chrome browser: tap the three-dot menu → SettingsAccessibilityText scaling. In Facebook: tap the three-line menu → Settings & PrivacyAccessibility → adjust the font size. These in-app adjustments stack on top of your system-level settings.

Small text is one of the most common frustrations on smartphones, especially for anyone whose vision has changed with age. Android provides several independent settings to make text and everything on screen larger — and unlike some workarounds, these are built-in system settings that apply across the entire phone, not just one app.

There are two separate adjustments that work together: Font Size (makes text in apps and menus larger) and Display Size (makes all icons, buttons, and interface elements larger). You can adjust each independently. This guide walks through both.
