Spotify for Podcasters: Record, Edit, and Publish Your Podcast for Free
Spotify for Podcasters (formerly Anchor) lets you record episodes on your phone, add music, and distribute your show to every major platform at no cost.
Create your Spotify for Podcasters account
~37sQuick Tip
Quick Tip: Take a few minutes to think about your podcast name before you create the account. Changing it later is possible but can confuse listeners who have already subscribed.
Record your first episode
~38sWarning
Avoid recording near windows facing busy streets, next to running appliances like dishwashers or refrigerators, or with a fan blowing nearby. These sounds are picked up clearly by microphones and are distracting to listeners.
Edit and add music

~34sQuick Tip
Quick Tip: Write a description of at least two to three sentences. Many people decide whether to listen based on the description alone, especially when they are browsing unfamiliar shows.
Track your audience and grow your show

Spotify for Podcasters — previously called Anchor — is the simplest way to start a podcast. The platform is completely free, handles all the technical distribution automatically, and lets you record episodes directly from your phone or computer without any special equipment. When you publish an episode, Spotify for Podcasters sends it to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, and many other platforms at the same time.
This makes it a great starting point for anyone who wants to share their voice — whether that is a personal story, a hobby discussion, an interview show, or educational content. You do not need a studio, a fancy microphone, or knowledge of audio engineering to publish your first episode.
The app records audio using your phone's built-in microphone. A quiet room and speaking close to your phone produces audio that is clear enough for most podcast listeners. If you want better sound quality as your show grows, an inexpensive USB microphone can make a significant difference, but it is not required to get started.
Spotify for Podcasters also includes a basic editor. You can trim the beginning and end of segments, rearrange sections, and add background music from a licensed library. More advanced editing — like removing mistakes from the middle of a recording — works better in a separate tool like Audacity, but many podcasters find the built-in editing sufficient for casual shows.
Your podcast gets its own RSS feed, which is a standard format that podcast apps use to find and deliver new episodes to listeners. This means your show works on any podcast app, not only Spotify. Get started at podcasters.spotify.com or download the app on iPhone or Android.
