How to Use Amazon Photos to Back Up and Store Your Pictures

Amazon Prime members get unlimited photo storage at no extra cost. Here's how to set up Amazon Photos and automatically back up every picture from your phone.

    1

    Download the Amazon Photos app

    ~24s
Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and search "Amazon Photos." The app is free to download. Open it and sign in with your Amazon account — the same email and password you use to shop on Amazon. You're automatically connected to your Prime subscription's unlimited photo storage.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Amazon Photos is also accessible at photos.amazon.com on any computer or browser. You can upload photos directly from your computer there.

    2

    Turn on automatic phone backup

    ~33s
After signing in, the Amazon Photos app will ask if you want to enable Auto-Save. Tap "Turn on" or "Enable." This automatically backs up all photos on your phone to Amazon Photos whenever you're connected to Wi-Fi. You can adjust backup settings by tapping the three-line menu → SettingsAuto-Save. Optionally enable "Auto-Save over mobile data" if you want photos to back up even without Wi-Fi (this uses your phone's data plan).

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: The first backup may take several hours if you have thousands of photos. Leave the app open and plugged in to charge overnight for the initial upload.

    3

Create a Family Vault to share photos with relatives

    ~29s
Amazon Photos includes a "Family Vault" — a shared photo library that up to 5 family members can contribute to. Each member still has their own private storage, but the Family Vault is shared. To set it up: open Amazon Photos → tap the three-line menu → "Family Vault" → "Get started" → invite family members by entering their email addresses. Family members receive an invitation and can accept with their Amazon accounts. Once joined, they can view and add photos to the shared vault.
    4

Order prints and photo gifts directly from the app

    ~36s
Amazon Photos connects directly to Amazon's print services. You can order printed photos, photo books, canvases, and personalized gifts right from the app. Tap any photo → tap the shopping cart or print icon → choose a product type and size → add to your Amazon cart. Prints typically arrive in 5-7 days with Prime. This is a convenient way to turn digital photos into physical memories to display or give as gifts.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Amazon Photos is also available on Amazon Fire tablets and Fire TV — you can view your entire photo library as a screensaver or slideshow on your TV, which makes a lovely digital picture frame.

Amazon Photos is one of the best-kept secrets for Amazon Prime members. Your Prime membership includes unlimited full-resolution photo storage — not just a limited amount, but genuinely unlimited. You can upload every photo you have ever taken, at full quality, for no additional charge.

Compare this to iCloud or Google Photos, which both give limited free storage (5GB for iCloud, 15GB for Google) and charge monthly fees for more. If you have a large photo library and already pay for Amazon Prime, Amazon Photos is a powerful option for backup or as an additional copy of your photos.

Amazon Photos also works as a family album that up to 5 family members can share and add to together.
